Our Mission
Texcell’s mission is to protect medicines of today and tomorrow, providing worldwide services to the biopharmaceutical industry.
As pharmaceutical experts, our clients develop therapeutic drugs for patients around the world. As viral safety and bioassays experts, Texcell evaluates the safety of the drugs during their development. Together, we make medicines safe.
Our History
In the 1980s, several significant contamination events involving blood-derived products and HIV prompted a critical need to ensure the safety of these products before they reached patients. In 1987, Professor Florian (“Nardi”) Horaud (1925-2000) founded the Texcell laboratory within the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France. Pr. Horaud held many prestigious positions, for the WHO or representing the European position at the International Conferences on Harmonization (ICH). The laboratory assembled a team to address the HIV crisis, where some of the earliest viral validation studies were conducted using HIV-1 virus strains identified by her team. This marked the beginning of Texcell’s establishment as a leading scientific entity in the field of viral safety, initially in the EU, and later expanding worldwide.
1987 – Texcell founded as service laboratory at Pasteur Institute
2003 – Inception as independent company
2005 – Current facility in Evry opened
2010 – First US facility in Maryland acquired
2015 – Asia office established
2016 – vivo Science german facility acquired
2017 – cGMP cell banking launched in Evry; Japan office established
2020 – China office established
2023 – US Viral Clearance Operations expanded
2024 – Opening of China Viral Clearance & Viral Safety laboratory
With viral safety facilities located in the US, EU and China, we can offer a global perspective on the safety of your products. The teams across the sites strive for a more collaborative, and efficient approach to a study design that represents the client’s goals, while encompassing a sound scientific approach. Our core services including Master & Working Cell Bank Characterization and Banking, Viral Safety Testing, Viral Clearance, and in Vivo Bioassays.
